April
Umstead divides her time between counseling and teaching
emotionally disturbed students at level five education
centers. She received her Master’s Degree at Bowie
State University in Maryland and is currently working
on her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. April has
been counseling children & adolescents for about
7-10 years. She also works with adults, couples, and
families with a Cognitive Behavioral and REBT approach.
April is missionary, worship
leader and the minister of creative arts at her church,
where she hopes to begin teaching on mental health as
it relates to the church to help create tolerance and
bring awareness to church leaders about mental health.
She also serves as a member on the Board of Directors
for Faith in the Family Institute, which is a Christian
organization dedicating to rebuilding the family. She
enjoys singing, dancing, acting and mentoring at-risk
youth.
