Robert S. Davison, MA, LCPC, NCC
Robert received his master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Christian integration from Regent University in 2015 and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Upon graduating from the University of Maryland in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in Family Studies, Robert was employed as a hotline phone counselor before becoming a vocational counselor for mentally and physically challenged adults. Taking a break from the helping relationship field, he owned and operated a landscape business before returning to the counseling field. Robert is married with one adult son and enjoys walks with his wife and dog, reading, relaxing at the beach, jogging, tennis, racquetball, visiting historical places, studying the Bible, and worshipping God.
Robert works with individuals (depression, anxiety, grief, anger, some behavioral addictions including pornography, relationship, and spiritual issues), couples (pre-marital), and groups (men and women with a focus on healing and wellness). Volunteer positions have included lay counseling within the Christian community, crisis pregnancy counseling for a Christian-based pregnancy clinic, hospice volunteer, elder, and Bible teacher for youth and adults in his church. Robert is interested in helping men develop integrity and Christian character as husbands, fathers, and Christian leaders, including the development of healthy sexuality.
Robert uses an integrative approach to counseling that pulls from various theoretical methods that are clinically researched as effective. He may draw from Solutions-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative, Christian Cognitive-Behavioral, and the use of the Christian twelve-step model for various life issues. With the client's consent, he integrates counseling to include Jesus Christ as the ultimate Source of healing and direction. Robert respects the values and culture of each client.
“I respect your individual journey, wherever you are in life. Being created uniquely, we have unique capacities to heal emotionally and grow in the purposes Christ calls us to. He is intimately involved in the details of our lives because He is the Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus brings good news, binds up the brokenhearted, proclaims freedom to captives (those with challenges and addictions), and comforts those who mourn (Isaiah 61: 1, 2). My goal is to partner with Him, meet you where you are, and work toward the mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual growth He intends for you. I counsel with consideration for your physical and environmental status, as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses. I am interested, by God’s grace, in helping you achieve a healthier you, a purposeful direction, and a closer walk with Jesus.”
